Azerbaijan Resumes Embassy Operations in Iran Amid US-Iran Ceasefire

(MENAFN) On Sunday, Azerbaijan announced the reopening of its embassy in Tehran following the implementation of a two-week ceasefire between the US and Iran. In a statement shared via the social media platform X, the embassy noted that operations would resume with a limited number of diplomatic and administrative staff, including the ambassador. The embassy further mentioned that operations would be phased, taking into account security and organizational considerations.

The statement highlighted that the swift reopening of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Tehran, following the cessation of military hostilities and the announcement of the ceasefire, underscores the importance Azerbaijan places on its relationship with Iran. It also reiterated Azerbaijan's commitment to supporting efforts aimed at fostering lasting peace and stability in the region.

The announcement comes amid ongoing tensions, with over 3,300 fatalities reported as a result of US-Israeli airstrikes on Iran since February 28. In retaliation, Iran launched strikes on Israel, Iraq, Jordan, and other Gulf countries hosting US military forces. The two-week ceasefire was brokered earlier this week, but negotiations between Iranian and US officials in Islamabad, held early Sunday, failed to produce a resolution.
